Seaman Requirements

1. Swimming requirement- Basic water/swimming saftey

2. Earn the GSA Emergency Preparedness Interest Project- First Aid/CPR needed

3. Earn the Paddle, Pole and Role Interest Project

4. Be familiar with the following charting terms and know how to apply them
Variation
Deviation
Speed, Time and Distance
Longitude
Latitude
Nautical Miles
Plot a simple course
Know how to use dead reckoning

5. Know international rules of the road and the rules for your area waterways
Know the rules for: motor vessels and sailing vessels
Lighting
Day shapes
Right of way
Maneuvering signals
Signals in limited visibility

6. Communications- Learn the phonetic alphabet. 
Learn how to correctly use the VHF radio
Learn one of the following; Morse Code, Semaphore, or International Code Flags
Learn and practice the correct procedured for that communications method
Learn and demonstrate the use of international code in all areas of communciations

7. Complete the Senior Girl Scout Challenge requirements #1 and #4
Describe and evaluate your project.
